Story

It all started back in 1998 when Shane Marsh the founder of S.J.Marsh, which was the original name of the company back then, finally decided to start up on his own for several reasons Shane had been in flat roofing his whole life and had qualified from a young age, however due to the nature of this particular type of product that was used often then and that he specialised in. The process involved in using this product was very labour intensive and that had an effect on his health. Shane had decided enough was enough working during the week and often most weekends whilst supporting two young children he felt exploited by the company he used to work and wasn’t valued.  

After much deliberation Shane had decided to go back to college in the evenings to learn another trade which was bricklaying, this decision was influenced by his father who was also in construction and specialised in restoration.  

After making a brake from the company who he used to work for, he found some local small jobs here and there, until he got his first major breakthrough subcontracting at a company called Tanner and Hall which was the biggest roofing company in Cambridge back in the seventies and eighties, through recommendation from people Shane had worked with in the past he had a run of rebuilding chimneys for Tanner and halls re-roofing jobs. 

Tanner and Hall had the monopoly in Cambridge and therefor had most of the roofing contracts in the Cambridge which as a city is very historical, Shane had always had an interest in restoration of old buildings and with his father’s knowledge there in the background, and through more recommendation Shane started working direct to Queens college, carrying out small restoration projects. 

Today S.J.Marsh and Sons Building Ltd can proudly say that our success has been due to the foundation of recommendation from our customers and colleagues we have worked alongside with. Those customers consist of : ……………. 

The company now consists of Shanes wife Jane who has been the backbone of the administrative side of the company from the start and Joseph and Edward who are Shane’s sons who work hands on and manage their own projects within the company. Over the years the company has built up good relationships with regular subcontractors and works closely with familiar Surveyors, architects, engineers and Building control to sign off their work. 

In short, S.J.Marsh & Sons building Ltd have all the resources to carry out any medium sized commercial and domestic works of any kind.
